Kirby and Lane

Could these two be ANY cuter?  No… is the answer.  Two more genuine and giving people you will never find.  We absolutely LOVED getting to work with Kirby and her mother (and often Lane and Cowboy, Kirby’s step dad) on their Dallas wedding.

If you ever wondered how Gibson Events does a Ballroom wedding, here’s your answer.  It is GORGEOUS.

Thank you Kirby and Lane for letting us be a part of your big day!

Kristin and Cody

Kristin and Cody eloped in Yosemite.  You can see the fantastical images of their wedding here.  Because tradition isn’t really their thing, they bucked the system and had a send off party instead of a reception afterward.  I have to say, I was skeptical about how the event would feel.  The anticipation and happiness were electric and it made for a great party.

The ask from Kristin was, “have you ever been to the East Side Showroom in Austin?”, our answer, “actually, we were there last week”.  We brought elements of the prohibition era feel of the Austin bar into the raw industrial space of RED, including a pair of mixologists who could not have been any cooler, slinging cocktails that would make grandma sit up and take notice.

All in all, it was a total blast!  Thanks guys for letting us be a part of it!

Micaela & Vinny

Micaela is fashion, good taste, humor and possibly the lost Kardashian.  Most importantly Micaela is ardently loyal, incredibly kind natured and freaking hysterical.  Vinny is really awesome and pretty lucky.

I can honestly say I had more fun at their wedding than I have since my own.

Thanks Mic and Vinny for letting us be a part of this awesome day.

While no one predicted the downpour that happened just as the guests arrived at the State Capitol for Chelsey and Russell’s wedding, I’m pretty sure all the guests predicted that the evening would be anything but a wash. This one was a blast!

Allison and Daniel: halfway around the world and right next door

Allison and Dan were a blast to work with.  We started via Skype as Allison was in South America and Dan was in Asia, both doing mission work.  We secured contracts on faith and actually did the majority of the planning starting when Allison returned to the states in mid-June for this Labor Day weekend wedding.

Allison lucked into a Claire Pettibone trunk show at JJ Kelly and found her dream dress in a fraction of the time usually needed for couture.  The color scheme was derived from some of Allison’s grandmother’s quilting squares which also served as the base for the centerpieces on the guest table.

Much of the decor, food and flowers were either locally sourced or found items from family, friends and vendors for this eco-conscious couple.

Clarissa and Alex, the NO drama, drama wedding

I love these guys.  They are the coolest.  Alex is a smarty pants PhD student and Clarissa just finished a Master’s degree in Dramaturgy.  Despite Clarissa’s extensive drama chops, she is the most totally no-nonsense, low drama bride ever.  It was truly a joy to work with them!

Sam and Andy!

This is the wedding of my sweet cousin Samantha (Sam) to my sweet new cousin-in-law Andy.  Sam and Andy are high school sweethearts from Joplin, MO.  They got married in Joplin less than two weeks after the tornado.  That means that between May 22nd and June 2nd when we rolled in, virtually nothing had been done, wedding wise.  Although the entire town was grieving and exhausted, it was time for a break.  This wedding was accomplished through a LOT of quick thinking and a little preparation.  It could not have been pulled off without the love and help of many resourceful people (both families and lots of friends). The result was the most heartfelt, happy celebration you’ve ever seen.

Both Sam and Andy were walked down the aisle by their parents, then Sam’s dad, Karl, performed a ceremony peppered with personal anecdotes, poetry and traditional readings.  The point at which I totally lost it (because I know you were wondering) was when Sam and Andy began to recite their vows.  At first I found it oddly familiar but quickly realized they were the vows my husband and I wrote for our own wedding seven years ago.  Karl performed our wedding too, and Sam and Andy had selected the vows without knowing where they’d come from.  Hearing those words spoken out loud again was the most amazing moment for me… but probably not for anyone else. :)

After the ceremony, guests engaged in lawn games, a photobooth wall, a cotton candy station and a sweets table featuring cupcakes, cakes and cookies provided by the ladies from the Mt. Hope Church of Christ.  The woman who was to make the actual wedding cake lost her home in the tornado.  Do you know that she dug through the wreckage, pulled out her cake pans and baked that cake at her sister’s home?  She absolutely insisted.

Guests danced to music provided by Sam and Andy’s musician friends and visited at tables draped with borrowed linens under a canopy of lights provided by us and strung using the bucket lift truck belonging to the groom’s family (well, one of the bucket lift trucks that they own).

The end of the night brought a fireworks display and a sparkler send off.  Sam and Andy made quite an exit on Andy’s motorcycle, with the bride tossing her bouquet as they roared through the crowd.

Sam’s vision for the wedding was for it to feel like the most perfect church picnic/county fair imaginable.  I think all involved would agree, we exceeded expectations!

Congratulations to my sweet Sam and Andy, may you find as much love and happiness in your lives as you’ve brought to your families!

Venue:  The estate of some church friends.  It was formerly a park where the uppity folks came in their horseless carriages to feed swans (so I hear).

Catering:  The lovely ladies of Mt. Hope Church of Christ.  FYI… I have a fabulous way to make sun tea by the gallon.  Buy a gallon of water, pour out just a little, then shove tea bags in it and sit it in the sun.  We needed to make 20 gallons of tea and I certainly wasn’t going to sit over a kettle for half the day.  It worked perfectly!

Rentals:  Tables and chairs from church, benches from the next town over’s Parks and Rec dept, linens from church, Poppy Lane Design and Gibson Events.

Dress and veil:  Aunt Lola (that would be my own sweet mom)

Boys Bow ties and Suspenders: Gibson Essentials

Photography:  The incomparable Whitney Scott

Floral: Poppy Lane Design - who gets an extra special shout out for driving all the way to Joplin to help pull the whole thing off.

Labor: The Wendt, Ames and Garman families and numerous friends.

Lauren and Tommy, aka world’s hottest, coolest, windiest wedding.

As featured on Southern Weddings here and here!

Lauren and Tommy are style savvy Manhattanites these days, but lucky for us, Lauren’s great-grandfather built a homestead on the most beautiful piece of God’s Oklahoma you’ve ever seen.  We were honored to work with Lauren and her parents to put together 2 days of celebrations including a custom altar built partially by the groom (with the help of a Dallas stonemason) and designed, well… by us mostly (but we don’t like to toot our own horn).

It was hot (104) it was windy (35mph wind gusts), but when those fancy folks stepped off the charter bus in their Louboutins, they were immediately in awe of the landscape and the incredibly beautiful bride. Guests danced the night away until the last one teetered back on to the bus and the ranch was once again tranquil.  Our deepest thanks to Lauren’s family for their hospitality and competence.  This was one for the record books and it would not have been pulled off without the help of a LOT of people.

Ashley and Tim

My goodness.  I think its possible that Ashley began planning her wedding in preschool.  She is absolutely 100% cool.  Then she went out and found Tim, who aside from being absolutely perfect for and smitten with her, is the son of a talented floral and event designer out of Austin, TX.  BAM.  Awesome wedding formula!

Got to work with some new faces on this one, and let me say, WOW, Amanda Scott knocked it out of the park with these photos!

Evan and Rachel

Here’s a post from our very own Kathleen Burggren.  She did such an amazing job working with Rachel and Evan to make their day spectacular!

From Kathleen,

When Lindsay presented me with the opportunity to design on a wedding of my own, I was excited, but after I met Rachel, I knew that we were going to have a fabulous time planning together.  Rachel and Evan started dating in high school and after both graduated from the University of Oklahoma, their wedding was a much-anticipated celebration for their family and friends.

Creativity comes easily to Rachel, and every time we met she had a new idea for adding a uniquely personal touch to their wedding. From customized postcards for guests to mail, to wedding-themed “I Spy” games for attending children (complete with the cutest colored pencils in their wedding colors), every aspect of the wedding was a reflection of Rachel’s chic and creative style. Super sweet as well, she even brought gifts and thank-you notes for her vendors… on the day of her own wedding!

Although it was more than a little warm on the day of their outdoor wedding, Rachel remained completely calm and was probably one of the most serene and non-stressed brides I have had the pleasure of working with. After tying the knot on the beautiful grounds of the Gaillardia Country Club, their friends and family celebrated and danced the night away. Later, Rachel and Evan made a classy exit in a white 1958 Jaguar, as guests waved and tossed handfuls of confetti in the air.

Many thanks to all involved, including the many hours put in by our intern, Jayme Glover. Rachel and Evan had quite the vendor line-up, as Birdie transformed the ballroom with beautiful and romantic florals, Marianne’s brought in custom fabric and rentals, Sugar provided the cake and Oklahoma Photobooth provided entertainment for all involved. Enjoy the following images, captured by Holli B. Photography.

Kylie and John married X3!

Kylie loves weddings… like a lot.  So much that she figured out a way to basically have three of them!  Here’s the scoop.  Kylie and John in the midst of planning a wedding in Oklahoma decided that they actually would love to get married in Mexico, but still wanted a big party in OK when they got home.  Once the Mexico plans were finalized they realized that the residency requirement in Mexico was a bit of a buzzkill and that getting legally married in OK with a ceremony in Mexico made more sense.  Kylie, always a sucker for a photo op, had her grandmother’s wedding dress altered to wear to her original rehearsal dinner (in OK.  Still with me?) and now had no where to wear it.  So I say, “Hey, why don’t we do a quick photo op wedding on campus at OU?”.  Kylie says, “I love it!  Let’s do it!”.  So we did.

So for you playing along at home that makes 1. Legal wedding on OU campus, 2.  Ceremony in Mexico and 3. Bash in Norman the day after arriving home (which had its own unique dress mind you).

I didn’t include any photos from the Mexico wedding as not to pass it off as my work, the Four Seasons at Punta Mita did an amazing job.  You can see many of them over at Holli B’s blog.  Holli did an amazing job of capturing this vibrant couple at every turn in their wedding adventure!

It was a pleasure to work with Kylie (and John) to make theirs an event events to remember!

Amy Cakes made the cakes on the FABULOUS sweets table, Abbey Road Catered the amazing food and Poppy Lane did a stellar job as usual with the florals!

K & Ken

K & Ken are in a word, unique.  They met in middle school but didn’t date until college.  They had a multi-year, multi-continent engagement.  It took them two months to pick out a front door for their new house in Houston.  K’s Louboutin’s are the first thing she bought for her wedding. Ken gave custom starfleet badges to his groomsmen.  It was apparent early on that this couple had their own way of doing things, and I was totally on board.  The result was an incredibly stylish, modern and urban wedding this spring.  Here’s to K & Ken, may they live long and prosper!

Mark and Jennifer

One of my favorite weddings ever! Mark and I are school friends from 5th grade and I couldn’t have been more pleased to meet Jennifer.  They are an absolutely perfect match.  Mark is a city planner by day, but moonlights as a partner in COOP Aleworks.  Jennifer does amazing work with the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.

Mark and Jennifer came to me shortly after their engagement with the idea to have an intimate ceremony and reception focused on hospitality and a general “warm and fuzzy” feeling.  They explained that they would love for it to feel like a night at one of their favorite restaurants (and site of one of their first few dates), but that it was an hour and a half drive from OKC.  I exclaimed that if they loved the place, their friends and family would too, and we should just go for it.  The result was the sweetest, most heartfelt and memorable wedding I could imagine.  Perfectly timed to end with a toast on the back deck as the sun set over the Oklahoma prairie.  Beautiful.

We were honored to have had Mark and Jennifer’s wedding featured as one of the “Brides of the Seasons” in the latest issue of the Brides of Oklahoma.

Barbara and John

Oh, my sweet Barb.  I met Barbara when she was chapter president of our sorority.  Should I mention that I was not a collegian at the time, but actually president of the House Corporation Board?  Nah, then you would know that I am WAY older than Barb.  But I digress…

Barbara found herself enrolled at OU Law and managed to woo this hunk named John, whose first requirement for a law school was that the school have a good football team.  John, who is actually quite cerebral notwithstanding the previous sentence, seems to be a perfect fit for our sweet little Barbara, so we had a little wedding in Barb’s hometown, ALTUS, America.  More specifically we transformed Barbara’s parents backyard into the hippest outdoor nightclub in southwestern Oklahoma.

A huge thanks to the vendors, both local and from OKC for pulling off this beautiful event!
